Meta Ads for hotels: what fundamentally changed in 2026

Updated on 06 May 2025

Anyone still thinking like it's 2022 is burning budget

Let me say it directly: most hotels still run Meta Ads the way they learned to three years ago. Manual audiences, complex adset structures, finely tuned targeting. Back then, that felt professional — and it worked.

In 2026, it doesn't work anymore. At least not as well.

Meta has gradually rebuilt its advertising system over the past two years. What used to be optional — automation, AI-driven optimisation, Advantage+ — is now the system itself. Anyone who ignores this is fighting the algorithm instead of working with it.

What has actually changed

1. Automation is no longer a feature — it's the infrastructure

You used to be able to choose: automation on or off. Today, that question is obsolete.

Meta is consolidating campaign types into fewer, AI-led formats. Manual campaign structures are systematically disadvantaged. Budget, targeting and optimisation increasingly run automatically — whether you want that or not.

For hotels, this means the energy that used to go into maintaining complex adset structures now has to be invested elsewhere.

2. Campaign structure is no longer a competitive advantage

One of the biggest misconceptions I see among hoteliers: they believe more structure means more control, and therefore more performance.

That used to be true. Not anymore.

Meta is standardising campaign architecture. Many accounts increasingly look alike — fewer campaign objectives, more uniform setups, stricter rules around learning phases and conversion thresholds. Anyone still building ten adsets per campaign is fragmenting the signal — and hurting their own performance in the process.

3. The AI makes the decisions — not the advertiser anymore

This is the decisive shift many haven't yet fully grasped.

Meta's AI now decides which creative gets shown, who sees it and how the budget is distributed. The advertiser supplies the input — the machine decides.

That sounds like a loss of control. And it is — but only if you resist it. Anyone who understands how to feed the AI the right input can scale faster and more efficiently than ever before.

What this means for hotels in practice

The role of the hotel marketer in Meta Ads has shifted: from operator to input provider.

What matters today:

Quality of signals. The pixel needs to be clean. Conversion events need to be configured correctly. The more high-quality data Meta receives, the better the system optimises.

Quality of creatives. Since Meta itself decides which creative is shown when, having a wide range of good visual material is crucial. Authentic images, short videos, different formats — this gives the AI more material to work with.

The right setup — not complexity. Fewer adsets, clear campaign objectives, sufficient budget per campaign so the learning phase can complete. This matters more today than any manual optimisation.

Conclusion

Meta Ads for hotels haven't become harder in 2026 — they've become different. Anyone who accepts this and adjusts their setup accordingly will be rewarded: with faster scaling, better performance and less manual effort.

Anyone who insists on the old logic pays twice: once through worse performance, and once through the budget lost along the way.
